Keeping Your Health in Check

We can all worry about our health, but never more than as we are getting older. Life can get busy; we can be less active, we can eat more, and life can be more stressful. So from time to time, our health can take a backseat. But making sure that we make our health a priority and taking the time for certain health checks throughout our life can literally be the difference between life and death.

For instance, there has been a lot of talk recently about the ‘Jade Goody’ effect because of cervical smears. The numbers of people going for them has been at a twenty-year low. But a quick couple of minutes at the doctor’s office can detect anything abnormal and then it can be dealt with quickly. If you don’t, then you will never know before it is too late. So that is one of the checks that you should be attending every couple of years as directed by your doctor’s surgery. What are some of the other things that can help to keep you in check and keep your health ticking over? Here are a few suggestions; would you add anything else to the list?

Cholesterol Tests

You might have heard of things like ‘Flora’ that are reported to help to lower your cholesterol, but cholesterol is something that is hidden, and we can’t really know what is going on inside. But having high levels of cholesterol is dangerous, and can lead to things like heart attacks or stroke. So asking your doctor for a cholesterol test from time to time is a really good idea, alongside a blood pressure check.

Eye Test

Our eyes are so precious and they can deteriorate as time goes on. And if you are not taking care of them, then it can cause some major problems. Sight loss can be difficult, so having regular eye tests is a really important part of taking care of your health as it can deal with any eye problems as and when. Regular checks may just mean that you get to pick out new glasses from somewhere like Reglaze glasses, but in more sinister cases, regular appointments at your opticians could mean spotting something major so it can be dealt with quickly.

Skin Checks

Skin checks are something that you can do yourself to a certain extent. You can just keep an eye on things and watch for changes with your skin. For example, if you have a lot of moles or freckles on your skin, and they start to change shape or colour, then it could be an indicator that you need to seek medical advice. So keep on top of what your skin looks like, and if things to change, make sure that you see your doctor as soon as you can.

Small checks and knowing your body can really help you to spot anything that is wrong with your body before it becomes something bigger. So make sure that you are making time for yourself in your busy life.
