Improving Your Home’s Security

Your home is your safe haven. It’s the one space where you should always feel safe and secure, so it makes sense to take a little time to ensure that it really is a safe place to be.

Here are some of the simplest, and most effective things you can do to improve your home’s security today:

Ensure Your Doors are Secure

Ensuring that your exterior doors are secure is very important because they are the easiest point of entry for would-be thieves. Many of us think that locking our doors is enough to keep them secure but that is often not the case; if doors are in a poor state of repair with weak frames and less than perfect hinges, for example, they will be very easy to get into. That’s why you should periodically inspect your doors. Even better, investing in good security doors from a company like Cerberus Doors will give you a greater level of protection. Of course, whichever doors you have, ensuring they are locked every night and kept in a good state of repair is vital.

Get a Ring Doorbell

Ring doorbells and similar products will alert you whenever someone comes to your door. You can see who is on your property via your smartphone and speak to them in real-time. If someone is looking around your property to see if they can get inside, this can be a great deterrent and chances are they’ll leave immediately. If they don’t leave, at the very least you will be able to take fast action against them.

Keep Windows Locked

Windows are another key entry point, so if you haven’t already, be sure to install locks on them and use them whenever necessary. Many of us leave windows on the latch, but latches are easy to open and won’t offer you much protection if someone is determined to get inside.

Let There Be Light

Having security spotlights around your home’s exterior is a fantastic way of deterring vandals, burglars and other people who are up to no good. If there is lots of light, criminals can be more easily seen and identified, so chances are they will not bother to target you at all. An added bonus of having a well-lit property is that you are less likely to stumble and fall when coming home in the dark.

Get a Burglar Alarm

Visible burglar alarms are a fantastic deterrent which is often all that is needed to keep you safe. If someone does break-in, they’ll make it known pretty quickly so that the offender is more likely to be caught, and more importantly, so that you can make yourself safe.

Secure Your Router

These days, criminals can do more damage with access to your Wi-Fi than you could imagine. If you don’t want them accessing your private information or using your Wi-Fi connection for nefarious purposes, take the time to enable WPA2 encryption on your device. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Stay safe!
