Adding a Personal Touch to Your Home

Nowadays, many of our homes look the same as one another’s. There are various reasons for this. First of all, we tend to take inspiration from similar sources. We’ll flick through the same home design magazines, we’ll browse the same Pinterest boards, and we’ll follow the same home design pages on Instagram. Secondly, many of us purchase mass-produced appliances or furniture for the sake of convenience, reliability, and the low cost attached to them. But have you ever considered adding a personal touch to your home? This is your space. You don’t want it to become a ten-a-penny property. The good news is you don’t have to completely overhaul your design. You just have to add some personal touches in. This will allow you to put your own stamp on things and really make your home your own. Here are just a few ways you can go about achieving this!

Add Some Art

Why not start by incorporating some art into your home design? There are plenty of ways you can do this. You can hang canvas paintings, frame beautiful prints, or maybe even have some sort of sculpture as a centrepiece on a table in one of your rooms. Of course, reproductions of the classics are great. But you’re bound to see endless homes with Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt prints featured on the walls. Why not go for something alternative? Consider more individual pieces like those by Doug Hude art. This will add a unique touch to things.

Incorporate Photographs

We tend to keep our photographs stored digitally nowadays. We have them on social media. We have them stored on our phones. We tuck them away in files in our laptops. But why not have some printed out into something more tangible. Photo frames can be hung from the walls or you can find beautiful free-standing frames that can stand on mantle pieces and window ledges. Photographs tend to be innately intimate. They can be of your family, your friends, pets, or other loved ones. The best part? You’ll find yourself looking at those you love every day!

Don’t Stow Everything Away

Minimalism is in and this chic design choice often means many of us store almost everything away and out of sight. This, of course, can be aesthetically pleasing. But why not leave a few telltale belongings out that make you happy, speak about your tastes and character, and make your home visibly yours? A book on the coffee table, a pair of favourite shoes in the hallway, or other small details can really put your stamp on your home!

Of course, you should always do what you want with your own home, and if sleek minimalist design speaks for you – go for it. But if not, don’t be afraid to have a few personal items strewn about that can speak volumes of your character! Hopefully, the above advice will help you to achieve this!
